Southern Belles

Last night was our annual installation of new officer’s banquet for The Rotary Club of Maysville and an outstanding night it was. My friend’s Patsy and Carol arrived early with me to decorate the room for our guests. We adorned the tables with gold and blue napkins, candles, magnolia blossoms, confetti and mini world flags. The cake was awesome with the Rotary emblem and our club name on the top.

Everything was fabulous but I do believe the highlight of the evening was the singing sensations of the Southern Belles. This group of outstanding ladies range in age from about 50 up to….well now one should never tell a woman’s age so enough said. Anyway, they put on a show that really was the hit of the night. Singing oldies and show tunes, their barbershop harmony really shook the roof. In fact, I do believe they got several bookings from this exposure. Thanks to Vida and her “Belles” and to Patsy for telling me about them.

The District Governor F.D. Rivenbark was our special guest and honored our club with a special recognition. We will be receiving the Presidential Citation at a later date. District Governor Elect Phil Crawford installed our new officers for 2004-05. Dan Ryan is our new president, Nancy Barbee is Vice-President, Victor Bryan is secretary, and Chris Henderson is treasurer.

I honored the outgoing officers with a plaque of appreciation and then honored the two senior members of the club with a special recogniton for outstanding service. Starling is the only remaining charter member and Milan has 27 years of perfect attendance. OUTSTANDING. Milan was also the one who proposed me as a member.

The club honored me as the outgoing president with a beautfiul plaque and so many kind words. A.G. Allen also honored me with a plaque for “President of the Year” in Area 8. For the first time in my life I was truly speechless. It has been such an honor and a pleasure to serve as president of my club but the credit goes to my fellow Rotarians. They are truly the best. I look forward to serving as V.P. this year and as A.G. in 2005-06 under Phil Crawford. Thank you again for helping me to grow in Rotary.
