Rotary 7730 District Conference 2005

District Governor (DG) Russ LaBelle hosted the annual District Conference in Wilmington, NC from April 29th - May 1st, 2005. R.I. Representative William “Bill” Johnson from Alabama and his wife, Carolyn, were special guests throughout the conference.

On Friday, the plenary sessions began with guest speakers and the evening concluded with the customary Shrimperoo held in Airlee Gardens. Saturday sessions began at 9 a.m. Incoming Group Study Exchange (GSE) members from Brazil and our outgoing team gave us a brief synopsis of their cultural and vocational exchange. This year’s focus was on agriculture.

Rotarians Against Drugs (RAD) speech contest winner Kimberly Dixon from Kinston was on hand to deliver her winning speech. All could see a future Rotarian in the making with Kimberly. She thanked District Governor Elect (DGE) Phil and her mother for always standing behind her and giving her encouragement.

Saturday night there was a reception in the historic Thalian Hall followed by entertainment from the world renown “Carteret Chorale” from Morehead City. Also on hand were the St.Andrew’s Bag Pipe Band from Laurinburg. Both groups were outstanding and enjoyed by all.

Next years conference will be held in Kinston. Please visit the picture gallery to see our fun time.
