Chicago Chicago That Wonderful Town

Well here we are in Chicago for the Rotary International Conference. Carol Jackson and I are celebrating, with Rotarians worldwide, the 100th anniversity of Rotary. It is awesome to think that Rotary began so long ago in this same town and was begun by a man who had a vision. Rotary is the oldest service organization in the world and one that other service organizations have used as a model. Made up of professional people who relish the motto of “Service Above Self”, Rotary is the first to come to the aid of people in need.

The first plenary session was awesome. The Master of Ceremonies was from The Rotary Club of Lane Cove, NSW, Australia and his name was Roger Climpson. I visited his club in Lane Cove two years ago with my friend Amit Karmakar. Now isn’t it a small world after all?

The flag ceremony showed the flags of the 170 countries where Rotary is chartered and the flags were paraded by youth on bikes. The graphical presentation of 100 years of Rotary was so touching and makes one proud to be called a Rotarian. Past Rotary International Presidents opened the session by carrying Rotary bells which is known around the world as our symbol to call our meetings to order. Carol and I are having a wonderful time in this awesome city and meeting Rotarians worldwide. Take a look at some pictures.
